Salt Water Fishing in Oregon

about half my razors give themselves away in the surf ('volcanoes' or 'donuts') and the other half are 'sand drops' usually as a result of walking, digging, or tapping the sand near them. I tried an experiment early this morning and took 'Pepper' with me to dig razors on a challenging very...

I've always wanted to go fishing off the Jetty but never got invited to and my grandpa doesn't want to. I have only gone deep sea fishing once. And what does it take to go fishing off the Jetty? I have a normal spinner and 40lb braid I use for bass. Also I've heard it's best to go at night and...

Hello! Any reports on tuna off of Coos Bay? I've got a charter planned for this weekend. I just want to know what to expect in case they cancel or change the target species. Thank you! James

Big tides, rough ocean July 14th & 15th. I am often asked "Why don't you want to fish the ocean this weekend?". This post is about how I determine if I will head to the ocean on a specific day. The first chart is of the tides at Barview, basically Tillamook Bay Bar entrance. You can see below...

Can't wait to get out there on the ocean and locate some schools of coho. The problem as usual is the red flag flying designating small craft advisory. The winds are blow stron off the coast and that has the wind waves tall and close. Today N wind 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt. Wind waves N 4...

6 hours on the ocean Thursday on my Hobie Oasis- Sunset bay launch at first light, due west almost a mile, 80 to 100' of water, and started trolling a herring for salmon. (FYI- Sunset Bay tag code is 20 ). I looked for groups of diving Murre but they were scattered about. No bait balls on the...

Things are looking up for this years Central Coast salmon season especially coho. The hatchery quota is 35,000 fin clipped fish, up 15,000 from last year. The season runs from June 30th until September 3rd. That is the good part. It adds more than a month to the season from last year...

Went out with my friend to the jetty and it was great. Both got the limit of 12-14" bass. In total we caught around 20-25 fish most were around 10-12. Bait fishing for greenling and perch was a bust no bites for a few hours but landed the first bass after about 15min once we swapped to plastics...

I've got a friend that wants me to take him jetty fishing. I have only ever been out to the north jetty in Garibaldi. We're students at OSU, so Newport is significantly closer than Garibaldi. Where do people jetty fish in Newport? Also, where do people pump sand shrimp at? We typically pump them...

following my 2018 motto: "bottom fish early and often", I spent the day at Simpson Reef. :D {"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/P4YgFtT.jpg"} {"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/8GogwJJ.jpg"}...

Is there a place to rent a small boat in Charleston? Not a charter service, but a small skiff. I didn't find any with Google. Thanks.

The big wind&rain storm that we have been enjoying took Monday off, light winds and mostly sunny, so I had a feeling there would be good crab to be found in CoosBay, and I was right. heading out fully loaded- I carry 2 full size pots- a regular Danielson box trap and under it, a 32" round...

I was only out a couple hours before the short (8 second) period swell got to me but the black rockfish cooperated, including a 21", 4.5# tank full of squid that it hurled all over my i11s! (free bait!). even better, the fillets were clean.

But here's my report anyway. My partner went to Coos Bay yesterday to fish and crab out of Charleston harbor. The weather was great with just a mild breeze rippling the water when we got there at 11 AM. We were looking at an afternoon low tide about 4 PM. across the bay channel, we set our traps...

I went out to my favorite ar a for lingcod and it did not disappoint. I went 2/2 landing a very nice 28” green colored linger. I still cannot figure out how to get the bass to bite. I have used swim baits of all varieties, shrimp flies, etc. does anyone have any suggestions?

We left Portland at 5:00 a.m. We were targeting ling cod, using larger presentations than we would for sea bass. Jeff caught the first fish, a beautiful 17.5 pound ling cod. We caught our limit, yesterday 3/7/18. Off the water by noon.

Finally, Saturday, February 10th provided an ocean window. Launched from Garibaldi, got all our ling cod, six for three anglers, ten black rock fish, and 12 crab for 3 pots. The commercial crabbing is reducing recreational crabbing success, no doubt, oh well. I was happy we all got our ling cod.
