Pacific halibut stocks remain high, good seasons and quotas again this year:

Central Coast Subarea (most of the Oregon coast):
'Nearshore' (inside the 40 fathom line) opens May 1 and is open everyday to Oct 31 or quota gone.
'All-depth' opens May 12 and is open everyday to June 30. Then until quota is gone, basically open every other weekend (Thur-Sat). More details in the press release.

Halibut fishing is such a bonus for the coastal fisherman. I do miss it. We used to make those log run out to the Chicken Ranch 44.28.600 x 124.44.017 (if anyone needs the numbers), and to the South Rock Pile. Later we learned more about the nearshore fishery, saved some fuel and fished inside the 40-fathom line. That was a good bit of luck. Making a bait check out at the Ranch is a lot more work than inside where we usually fished in 180 to 235 feet of water. Caught this fish just 8 miles from the bar. Lots of fish and chips.

Great Fish! I have still never halibut fished. Tried to a few times but couldn't get out. One of many bucket list items.
