Is fishing the Mac for steelhead and salmon a complete bust this year?

Been slower this year for sure. I am 3 away from a full tag but that's because I am able to fish a lot more than most people. A couple weeks back was the best for my boat with multiple fish day each trip. I am using natural bait and colors seem to switch from hot pink to black. Drift fishing...

    Boater caution on the Mac

Floating it twice a week and seems like there are days the bite is on for an hour and if you are not there in that time it is tough. Been able to pick up at least one with multiple fish days happening in the last week. This low water seems like it really has the fish more spooky than years...

    Steelhead counts?

So does anyone believe the numbers are going to magically change? I am starting to think its going to be a tough steelhead summer run with numbers being so low. Looks like I might have to learn to catch stinky salmon. Are they stacked somewhere waiting for water temp. etc. to move up river?

Fishing for summer steelhead on the McKenzie just below leaburg dam

It will be a zoo up there Saturday, but its better than sitting home. I personally live really close to the dam and I check it out to see whats going on. Nothing is impossible but catching a steelhead will be slim at best. There will be a couple caught like every opening day.

Congrats on the fish from the ol snagslaw. Its been a weird year on that river for me. Only constant is all the times I break off and thats minimum of 15 per float trip.

    Awesome day!

Plumb I understand back pain with a couple herniated discs, but u know a steelhead can take the pain away for a few minutes. Hope your back gets better.

Well I have never seen so many guys on the lil river, but managed to get into a couple. Lets just say there are some big ol steel this year running. I am still shocked on how many guys, but I guess nothing shocks me anymore. Use to keep this on the down low, but it doesn't matter anymore I guess.

Heading down that direction for the last day of 2012. I have two spots left on my tag and see if I can fill it. All I can say is the Locals hate to see some out of towners come show em up, but thats just how it works sometimes. We had an older gentleman last year come down as we were pulling...
