Pretty spot on taking the high ground, especially having the wife with you. I'm more conscious of keeping my lady out of bad situations than on my own or when I'm with buddies, so I guess we can all just imagine our wives are there when we get a possible confrontation. :)
I've had a few state...
It definitely doesn't seem to be getting easier to catch salmon/steelhead.. but when I finally get one I feel pretty freakin' proud of myself. :)
I know the fish passage at Willamette is showing a big difference from the 10 yr. average and a lot of people are having a heck of a time tying in...
I like the bald eagle comment.. that's some truth.
The only time I've made the drive out to Big/Gnat creek I watched and followed a bald eagle while it circled and surveyed Gnat Creek. Hiked in quite a ways.. then lost him around a corner that was overgrown and I couldn't keep up. Once I came...
Sorry guys, my phone subsituted Reddington for Remington. It's a Reddington package.. bought it on a whim at ****'s. It's nice but it doesn't cast very smooth and the reel is as described.. pretty clunky.
I'm just getting serious about this stuff. I bought the ****'s package and a Bimart...
I've been looking for a new reel and I came across a couple "quick retrieve" models that have a multiplier 3:1 ratio. Have any of you/do any of you use one? The first one I saw was a large arbor, clearly labeled for salmon. The other few that I saw were mid and small arbor. Would that be...
The good news is that I have "Fishing in Oregon"... I usually use it for stuff like the Sandy and Clack, 'specially coastal rivers. Haven't used it much for lakes, tho. I'll check it out..
I wouldn't be against a tag along. I think my girlfriend would actually like having another lady to hang...
I'd like to plan a trip for the coming summer (seems far away, but it's almost 2013 already!) and want to do some hike-in backpacking. I'd also like to get in to some trout fishing, maybe some nice streams holding steelhead if I can find a place near the coast, but probably going for trout...
I'm just north in the Brooklyn area, used to be in Sellwood. Only thing I've seen in the rectangular one is goose droppings. I'm not sure about the other one. It looks natural, but I don't know about anything holding in there.
Maybe a little kid casting class?? If it was adults I have no idea...
That outing still baffles me. I tried every color of power bait and just couldn't get anything to entice the fish. After switching to the pink and green I couldn't keep em off. Pink or green by itself? Nothing. Together? MONEY!
I've read articles about fly fishing and jig fishing for...
These are a few from my first batch. It's my first time trying to tie these guys, so I'm just kinda trying to keep them clean. I haven't figured out how to get a bead on, or the "best" way to assemble the feathers and what-not, but I'm getting it down. I'll probably get one of those hook clamps...
I made the mistake of going all the way out to Rainier to salmon fish and realized only when I got there that the Columbia was closed. I ended up going to Trojan instead and got my girlfriend her first fish. It's easy to walk around, as it's not that big. Had a great time. You can float it if...
Two goals:
1. Catch a keeper on a fly rod on the Sandy.. I love the natives but I'm ready to take home.
2. Get my old man his first steelie. I don't really care how we get him one, as long as it's legal and one heck of a fight!
After this summer I remember why I love winter steelhead fishing...
