Thank you so much! I think with combined methods applied I will definatly increase my chances. I use smaller presentations as well and think this would help indefinatly. I will keep a the great tips in mind when out next and report on my findings :)
I have been using float and jigs or shrimp or eggs for trout for quite some time now. I have been very successfull in rivers for good sized trout pretty much anytime I go now. I was just wondering, a lot of times I target Steelhead I am getting trout or smaller fish biting a lot even when I use my...
The river is running up into the 10,000 cfs range recently. It is fishable in spot but is very dangerous and the fish will be close to the bank in slow holes.
Use wooly buggers in olive and even white. Gold ribbed hares ear nymphs in a size 14 work year round as well. I have always had great luck with egg patterns as well. Good luck to ya! Remember to report back with your findings :).
I wish I could catch steelhead lol. 3 years now lol. My day will come I suppose. Thanks for the reply. It has been a great year so far. More to come soon! :)
Next time run a sand shimp alive in the very slow deep pools early mornin under a slip float. Its a great way to find fish and if all else fails use Pautzki eggs and barbless hooks to have some catch and release trout fun:)
Same as you pretty much. I have to use shot sometimes to get the nymphs down. I would say bait on a fly intended rod is a no go. I dont really see it though happening. I have even seen guys use centrepin reels for fly fishing. I would try that. I think beads are a fine line when a glo bug...
Eventually that is my plan Hitman, that is a great setup! I live in a condo so I have not built my Cedar box yet ;) I actually want to make an underground piped smoker someday. That would rock!!!!
Here is the final recipe I settled on after much trial and error for this delicious treat. This is for one large filet of Sockeye Salmon.
For the brine use...
1 1/2 cups dark pure brown sugar
1/4 cup sea salt
1/2 cup filtered honey
1/2 cup pure maple syrup... it costs a bit more but is worth it...
That river running at a low of 8000 CFS also makes it a bit pointless lol. The fishing conditions are very poor right now. That is a great sudgestion though man. That is a wel producing pattern on this system. We just need the water to come down a bit ;)
Hell YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! I did not know we got Salmon Flies on this system! Thats awesome news. Thanks man. How long do they normally go for. Do you know of any resources on details of this so I can learn more? I can't find anything :(
This is very big of you man. Great post. Sometimes things can get heated but we are all friends that love fishing. That is of the utmost importance :) Fish on! :)
