Jigs for bass and green ling?

I've had success catching good keeper sized black rockfish using 6-8in green/pumpkinseed curlytails as well as black curlytails. The trick is you have to hit the jetty right before sunrise. The fish come up from the bottom and feed in the upper rocks at night and dive back down when the sun...

    Check out these shortrakers!

That day was perfect! Semi-warm, no wind, and flat flat. Unfortunately, that day was followed w/wind and waves crashing over my head while I was trying to weigh and measure samples lol. I guess it comes with the territory

    Check out these shortrakers!

These fish were taken on a dragger about 100mi WNW of Newport at 350 fathoms on a dragger. Gotta love getting paid to work with fish like this! BRW Fisheries Biologist NOAA/AOI Newport, OR

    3-22-09 crabbing

Well. Here's my theory. Judging rockfish and groundfish behavior, I guessed they were more active at night. I think they leave the security of the rock crevices and move up in the water column to feed in semi-open water. During the day they will hold tight to the rocks/bottom...

    Update BC 1&2

Several methods. The most popular/common is to use a small treble hook with a lil ball of powerbait on a 2foot ish leader. You can use nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, spinners, spoons, curly tails, just about anything :)

    Update BC 1&2

I haven't fished for bass at these lakes. I'm sure there are some in there and they are probably whoppers since trout are plentiful.

No lings yet, but I will be going more often now that I have a better idea of how to nab a fish here and there. All I did was stand and the intersection of the finger and main jetty and fan cast the jig and slow retrieve after letting it sink. I did lose a lot of rigs, but it comes with the...

    Sturgeon fishing near Newport?

Hello all. I've been here for bout a month and have the trout dialed in, rockfish wrangled, and now gunning for sturgeon. What's the closest producing spot near Newport? The wife is anxious to go, so we're doing some research and hopefully picking up some new gear for the biggins. Any advice...

    Update BC 1&2

Fishing started off great with the first stocking. The larger stocked fish were biting hard. Now, the biggins aren't biting but the lil guys are. They are biting very finnicky and usually only once, so you gotta nail em quick. On a good note, I have been getting them with small spinners...
