Place for beginner

I have had a fly rod for years and recently got it all set up again. I am looking for a good place to go as a beginner. Anything close to Sherwood would be great.

I'd check lake trout stocking reports online and go after some rainbows.

if you can travel a bit, going after Sea Run Cutthroats in one of the coastal rivers or lakes can be fun this time of year. SRC are not just fun to catch but super tasty and very plentiful in many systems...

Go to the Umpqua, and fly fish for Smallmouth. They are more forgiving than trout to beginners, and one is pretty much guaranteed to catch a few.

Sorry, I forgot to reply when I saw the notification a while ago. Thanks for your suggestion. Is there any particular river you would suggest? Not looking for your favorite spot, just the names of a few would be nice. Also, what timeframe do I have for catching these? I've got to save up a little money before I will be able to go on a trip towards the coast.

I would love to catch a smallmouth on the fly, but that is a little further than I am willing to travel for bass. Thanks for the reply though.
