Do common carp ever come without barbels?

It's a goldfish/common carp hybrid. They're pretty common where both species swim. I catch them every now and them at Fern Ridge. You can count lateral line scales to confirm.

    Hoover Ponds

Hoover Ponds are definitely still open. I've fished them at least twice a year since 2005, and the one I fish has never been drained. I've caught Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, Yellow Perch, Brown Bullhead, Black Crappie and in recent years, the Bluegills and Greenies have been...

    Where to fish in Denver?

I'll be taking a business trip to Denver in two weeks, and the first day I'm there I have about 6 hours free. I'd like to go fishing, but I won't have a car, and I'd like to see if anyone knows a guide in the area? I'd gladly pay extra to be picked up, but I want to fish for a species I've never...

    214 fish in four hours!

Not very big. Most were 6-8" and few topped 1/3 lb. Nice! This was my best day. My other top freshwater days were: 158 (146 Black Crappie, 9 Pumpkinseed, 2 Largemouth Bass, 1 Tui Chub) 125 (111 Bluegill, 11 Brook Trout, 2 Largemouth Bass, 1 Rainbow Trout) 105 (104 Bluegill, 1 Largemouth Bass)...

    214 fish in four hours!

For sure! If you do find one, let me know. My little brother attend Portland State and he doesn't have a car, so he'd love to find a good metro fishing spot for light tackle fishing.

    214 fish in four hours!

Well, I released them all because cleaning 200+ is something you only have to do once to never do again. I took about 5 friends out to Lake of the Woods in high school, and we all got about 30-40 yellow perch. I cleaned them all. It was awful. I started keeping track of every fish I caught when...

    214 fish in four hours!

Indeed it was, Raincatcher! Even though my fingers were torn up from all the scales and sandpaper teeth on the pumpkinseed, it was one of my best days ever!

    214 fish in four hours!

Fishing in an undisclosed location about 3 hours from Lakeview, I caught 214 fish in under four hours. Using jigs of various sizes, I caught fish after fish. Sadly, all of the fish were invasive and the native trout were nowhere to be found, but it was still a great day. A week before, I'd...

Fly fishing below JC Boyle Dam

Just so you know, these are redbands, not rainbows. They're a subspecies of rainbow that is excluded from the state record books, because when the dams were put in there was heavy interbreeding with landlocked steelhead, which made the brood stock much larger than most bows.

    Spring Break 2013!!!

It was the only way to get it unhooked. Netting the really big ones is asking for a repeat of the Steve Irwin experience, and this one was particularly fiesty. It was just gaffed through the mouth, and it swam away fine. The other three we caught were just unhooked with long-handled pliers.

    Spring Break 2013!!!

Haha, the Captain had a cat named "Spike" that ruled the boat. It was hilarious! It would jump around while we were fighting fish, watch from the upper deck, and it fell asleep on my buddy in transit. Truly a unique experience!

    Spring Break 2013!!!

For Spring Break, I went down to Sacramento and San Francisco for a few days with one of my best friends. We caught a Warriors game, hit up the casino, and just toured the city on foot eating tons of great food. The highlight of the trip; however, was fishing the San Pablo Bay! Captain Don...

    Lakeview fire???

Thanks for the update! Hopefully I can get over there before the weather turns! I heard that one side of the lake had everything burned around it. Do you know if this is true?

Filleting and vacuum packing around Southern Oregon?

Filleting a trout is a major waste of meat. Cook the whole trout, or if it is too big, slice along the spine to cut it into two halves. Put on your dry seasonings, slather in olive oil and lemon juice, top with applesauce, and put it in the oven or on the BBQ. You get way more meat that way.
