    Guide fishing near Astoria

There are many good guides that fish for bottom fish if that is what you want. That may be the best option as a price point for meat. However, I have to say if you want a bunch of meat, look for an opening on the central coast all depth halibut, Aug 5 & 6th, and get a combined albacore/halibut...

Florida fisherman coming to Oregon. I want to fish!!

There is always bottom fishing. The bite on black rockfish has been good, with lingcod a bit harder to find in any size. Coho opens June 25, but likely smaller in size. Chinook are out there, fish deep off the rigger. Last year we caught 9 tuna June 22. That was a fair day for June, but a...

    Garibaldi halibut

The Oregon all depth season started this last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The forecast was looking very good in the long range forecasts and we all held our breath each day as the weather page loaded. The forecast held but the fishing was slow out of Garibaldi. We managed 50% Friday and...

    Any shark fishermen around?

This one got too close to my halibut. I've seen a thresher out while tuna fishing but have never targeted them. Frankly. I don't know what to do or how to safely land a big shark like a thresher. That tail makes me very cautious. I know folks have hooked salmon sharks but again, I've...

Another great day out of Astoria

I'm another guy that likes to fish hootchies. I use lots of white ones and never add bait. I will smear some scent jelly inside the hootchie on occasion. I have had good luck with a paste, Salt & Anchovy (cannot recall the maker).
