    Sunday 3/31

we caught everything with red worms (from our compost bin) floated from the bottom. The bluegill were right on the shore so the kids could see the fish take the bait. Most of them were too small to even hookset though, so I had to do _alot_ of re-baiting.

    Sunday 3/31

Took the little guys out to St. Louis Ponds for the 1st time today. Got a keeper rainbow on our 1st cast on Pond 1 (red worm floated from the bottom), but not much after that. The kids caught a bunch of blue gill in Pond 6, which was fun for them. Noticed when I got home and was cleaning the...

Spring break fishing for the youngsters

I took my kids to Mt. Hood pond tuesday. A nice spot for the little ones. We had some action, but did not land any. There were plenty of folks there, and I saw a couple of legals taken. It's still open to all until April 1st, but after that it I believe it is under 17 and Disabled Anglers only.

    CC Thursday Evening

Yep thats what I was thinking with all the threads I've read about that spot... Too bad the roadwork isn't more extensive ;)

    CC Thursday Evening

My first time at this spot. Hiked in the "long way" as the hatchery road was still closed. Got there around 5 and there were 3 or 4 other guys right at the confluence of the creek and the sandy. No one was getting any action. I fished down river for a while and saw somebody cross over to the...

dabney, 2 for 3, no keepers.

Thanks for the education guys. So I can put adipose clipped fish on my combined tag? Unless I filled that, would there be any reason to get a hatchery tag at all then?

dabney, 2 for 3, no keepers.

Thanks for the link P. Since I haven't inked any of my tags yet, I haven't run into this problem :( Are Coho the only adopose-clipped Salmon species in the Sandy ? If I understand the regs (I've tried to read them...), these are the only Salmon legal to keep from this system? This is the...

dabney, 2 for 3, no keepers.

Thanks for the tip Osmosis. I will remember that next time. (I am not used to throwing them back...unless the are tiny... :)

dabney, 2 for 3, no keepers.

Well I landed my very 1st salmon this evening. It was a monster and took me 20 minutes or so to bank. This after the 1st one I hooked got away. They drag on my new reel was set way too low, and in the heat of the battle, I loosened it even more. Anyway this looked to be a wild Chinook as far I...

    Dabney

Was at Dabney before dawn Sunday. Crossed the river in the dark and headed toward the bridge. Saw somehting jumping right around the bridge area, but could not get it interested in my spinners... Did catch a (steelhead?) smolt barely bigger than the lure. Told him to bulk up before he tries...

    Dabney

Eggs; That is the spot where I thought something jumped at my spinner mid-air... I started on the river to get there though and had to climb over a huge knot of downed trees (= dangerous...). On the way back I hiked inland to avoid it.

    Dabney

I went to Dabney yesterday (10/4) evening to practice my spinner technique. It was pretty quiet. I am new and still trying to identify potential holding water, but the river here looked ill-defined: shallow and uniform with few noticeable features. There was maybe one decent looking tail-out...

Fishing after dark? (1st report ever...)

Are those productive times to fish? I always thought sunrise/sunset were good times, but I didn't know if fishing in the dark made sense.

Fishing after dark? (1st report ever...)

After a successful summer of taking my kids (and most of the kids in the neighborhood) to catch stocked trout, I decided it was time to gear up for some "Big Boy Fishing". I poured through the forums here and it looks like the Sandy is my best bet for bank fishing Salmon/Steelhead in the area...
