They catch shrimp commercially here. Dungeness crab is our big crustacean on the west coat. Commercial season just started and folks catch them on their own in a sport fishery. Our water is very cold year round.

What is that fish?

Nah, you don't want to move to Oregon unless you love being frustrated...chasing our purty chrome fish will produce a lifetime addiction and untold frustration. :wall: We have entirely too many streams, lakes and rivers full of fish that love spitting out what we OFFer. Right now we are frustrated because we have NO rain... But, if you want to spend the rest of your life being frustrated...come on over to our slice of heaven.:D

Or not. It's easy to do both.

Anyways, the Oregon Bay Shrimp that are so common, are not in bays like their name suggests. Most all shrimping in the PacNW is done in 300+ feet of water. In Oregon, you'll not find anyone, that I know of anyways, doing any recreational shrimping. Crabbing, however, is much easier and plentiful.

Saltwater fishing on the coast is nothing like the Gulf. No sight fishing here, it's mostly all bottom fishing, with some saltwater trolling for salmon and albacore in the summer.

If you want to shrimp, spend some time in Puget Sound. That's where folks shrimp. You need a specialized shrimp pot, the mesh size is regulated, as is the rope and the "marine area" where you shrimp. The season is like 4 hours long and a zoo like Buoy 10. Can't wait to try it this May!

Good luck wherever you end up.

There are shrimp south of Port Orford. A boat is needed along with some local advice:). Im not sure what species they are, they are almost like a small prawn.

Yeah our Pacific Shrimp and Dungeness Crab are about the only thing close to shrimp we fish for in Oregon....but its big business and also both are sustainable fisheries. You can deep water shrimp but its a gamble unless u know exactly where to go..u can loose lots of gear.
