My spot came through good today!

Got my 7ft ugly stick all set up with a brand new pflueger reel and went back to my spot I keep fishing to try her out and caught 5 in about an hour! It was low tide in this slough while i was there, maybe thats the ticket?
First one was my personal biggest bass ever so far! My drag was way loose and he fought like a beast, thought i was gonna lose him.
Any guesses on size guys? I guessed he was around a 4lb'er?

Caught him on the 2nd cast!

Then 3 casts later caught this little guy,

Next was this dude, who had a dead fish in his mouth already!

I didn't get a picture of the 4th fish, but here is the last one.

It's hard to tell from that picture but my guess would be 3lbs.

Nice bass no matter what it weighs!

Nice catch. I have been eyeballing clatskanine for years and have tryed around westport with zero success. All I have caught is smallies. I might have to take my boat up there and give it a shot one of these days. Lower columbia largemouth are like a urban legend I always here stories but never see evidence or have any success myself. Were the bass in the tidal water or in the water directly connected to the river? I have heard of people telling me of guys catching bass 9 to 10 pounds in some of those sloughs and there are hundreds of untapped backwaters in the columbia.

Thank you guys!

catfishman : They are definitely around here. You should come try sometime! I am a noob bass fisherman, (just started a few weeks ago) I've caught probably 12 or so in the last few weeks, pretty much all from this same spot. All largemouths, I have never caught any smallies around here but then again I've never really tried. I've always been a trout fishing lover but my dad and brother and I would often come fish in the Sloughs for whatever would bite (Squaw, suckers, perch, bluegill, catfish, and I caught a couple bass on accident back in the day)

But yes I have heard of some real big ones coming out of the sloughs around here, I saw a guy just recently had one that was definitely over 5lbs and he said he caught an 8lber the day before.

To answer your question though, I've been catching these in a slough that is across the road from one that is directly connected to the river, I dont believe this one im fishing is tidal, if it is its not much at all. Im fishing at the end of this slough right at a pumphouse. I have caught all of mine on crankbaits, had 6 or 7 hits on my strike king frogs, and thats about it. Everyone says senko's are where its at but I still haven't even had a bite on one. I don't think I'm doing it right.

Wow, great looking fish and thanks for sharing.

Senkos are lures that fit the habit of the bass in confined water (lakes, reservoirs), not so much in free-flowing waters. Lots of people just seem to have the knack for snagging bass on senkos in rivers. It just takes adaptation and patience. That pumphouse looks very familiar. Where is that at?

Love the Massive bounty! Nicely done! That is something some people would dream of, speaking of which I'm jealous! Great job!

Thanks guys, its here in Clatskanie, Idk how familiar you are with the area, but if you head out towards quincy and go out on the dikes/farmlands, that is where this pumphouse/slough is.
