Fishing with my daughter on July 27, Newport Oregon

We caught these two off the very tip of the north jetty at Newport on an EXTREMELY flat (<3 foot swell) ocean. I know they get bigger, but the black is the biggest one I've ever seen @ 5 lbs 11 oz, and my daughter caught it. She almost never gets a chance to go fishing (lives in Palm Desert, Ca), so this was a real treat for both of us. While I caught the Ling Cod and another undersized one, we both caught several other nice sized blacks as well. 14 foot Gregor, 15 hp Suzuki, burned approximately 1 gallon gas. You don't have to go miles offshore to get nice bottomfish. Econofishing:).

Fish taco time! Looks like you had a great time on a nice smooth salty day. Just a few days back the water conditions were quite ugly. Nice to see folks out there having fun.

Her smile speaks volumes. How awesome for you both.

The only thing better than fishing with your kids is catching with your kids! That looks like it was an unbelievably awesome day for the both of you!
