Was camping at Hills Creek this weekend, and fished saturday and sunday near the inlet. SUPER HOT. I don't remember what the water temp was, but it was 98 and 99 degrees with very little wind. The water is starting to get nasty, it's resembling Odell the last time I was up there a week before they called the blue green algae bloom, I suspect an algea bloom will be full blown in a week or two at Hill's Creek. However, that didn't impede the fishing at all!
The fishing was hot! I was surprised. Not so much during the middle of the day, but 9-12 and 5-8. Smallest fish I kept was 15 inches. There were a lot of smolt wreaking havoc, chasing lures bigger than they were, and a few small natives that were released. One such native had three leaders hanging out of it's mouth...not the sharpest tool in the shed, that one...or just extremely unlucky, though perhaps he IS lucky because he's a native and gets to go back while his fin clipped cousins went night night in my cooler.
The biggest fish of the day though was 19" and as I was getting ready to bonk him, holding him with a slippery wet towel...he pulled some ninja trout moves and made it back into the water, super mad I was! But then I had another fifteen incher on, and it was all good!
I will have some pictures when I get home from the work place later tonight.
Altogether we went home with 12 fish 15-17", that's a lot of meat...I will be eating well all week! Mmmm grilled trout. I'm salivating already.
