An interesting contradiction

While tinkering on homemade magnum trolling spoons, I noted an interesting contradiction. A major taboo in spoon presentation is a spoon that spins, while fishing a cut plug herring without a spin is an equal faux pas???
I guess I need to survey more salmon...

You probably hit that by mistake. I'll fix it for you. :)

I think fish hit spoons tumbling, spinning, wobbling, landing, at the begging of the drift, slack line, tight line, end of the drift, shallow, deep, fast, slow, bright, dark, beat up, drawn on, and my personal favorite free drifted at the mercy of the current-

Im not to herring savvy though. but I love me some spoons;)

Back durin' the days o' the depression my grandfather used to cut orange peels into diamond shapes and put them on a hook, claimed he always caught the hell out of them. Said he was walking up a gravel road and here's this kid coming out of the bushes with a steelie in each hand. He asked him what he used (bait and gear was a bit tough to come by) and he said "orange peels."
