a lot of those gauges for fish timing are just a guess, based on previous years. The truth is, every year can be different. This year for instance, lots of rivers are running higher then normal so fish are coming in sooner, making predictions from previous years incorrect for this run.
The key...
Sorry guys, not trying to hi-jack this post.
How are you targeting Steelhead and where? If I can help in anyway, feel free to send a pm, I'd love to help you get into your first Steelhead. Better yet, post a new topic and let others chime in. I know I'm not the only one here that wants to see...
I caught a 6lb Carp on the Rogue last year. They are few and far between though, like the other guys said.
I'm with Shane, go hit the Umpqua and fish for smallies...LOTS of fun and not too far away.
I love that place...The Rogue is nice but I would swap it out for the Umpqua if I could.

Nice fish either way. My guess would be a summer steelhead. I'm with the other guys, I wouldn't say 100% of hatchery fish spawn in the hatchery either. That's like saying they are guarenteed to be in the river on a certain day...down here, lots of people say there are "no" winter steelhead in...
I typically stay out of these type of threads because I obviously have a biased opinion and don't want to come off as a spammer. That being said, I catch lots of trout in small streams and I never use anything bigger then a #8 Octopus hook. As far as how to fish I like to drift fish small...
The combat fishing scene usually doesn't change based on fishing reports...lets face it, the Middle Rogue has been BLOWN out and the upper has been in decent shape most of the winter (like every year). For that reason alone there are going to be more people fishing the upper river then usual. It...
