Out of curiosity do you know which line they took through the rapid? I've run that rapid hundreds of times, and am failing to see how they could get themselves into that much trouble w/o taking a weird line.

For stillwaters and light current...I use a Lowrance Mark 5 DSI and am pretty impressed with it for being a lower end unit.
On the big boat for saltwater I have a Garmin 4210/GSD24/B260 and a Garmin 740S/P66, which are both much higher dollar units.

CC stuff is usually short lived if used much on rivers. The frames just aren't meant for the bending a twisting it puts on it...same goes for the pontoons frankly.
For a lake...I don't have any issues with them though or very mild river.

A 12 or 14 ft cat is no more dangerous to anchor than a drift boat. They just will not anchor as easily, or hold in as heavy of water. Understand the limitations of yourself and your equipment and you'll never have a problem.
