    Worst Backlash Ever!

I use one of those miniature screw driver that's used on eye glasses. I pick at the line that's coming through the level wind and work it out. As for preventing the backlash, when casting, keep your thumb on the spool and at the moment your sinker/lure hits the water, apply pressure on the spool...

    Two Weeks and Counting

Just woke up after that long drive back. I checked-in at Ainsworth state camp grounds and was lucky to get a site that was up and further from the train tracks so I the noise was minimal. The problem with the boat is the ignition switch. I think it's the safety neutral switch. I checked the...

    Two Weeks and Counting

Hi All, I just arrived home after a great week fishing on the Columbia. Special thanks to panderson aka Paul who taught me the art of anchoring, fishing for Shad and taking the next day to accompany my son and I on the Columbia for some Sturgeon. Another special thanks to Black Talon aka Evan...

    Two Weeks and Counting

panderson has offered to "train" me in the art of anchoring when I get up there...and if the shads are in, we'll fish for bait. Black Talon has offered to loan me his anchoring system and will fish with me. I'd like to target what ever is hunger. I've considered a guide but decided otherwise...

    Wear your life jackets

You're one lucky man. 12' boat, 3 people on a windy day... well it's good to read that all of you are well. Good advice on the PFD, I wear mine always and this certainly enforces it.

    Boating a Sturgeon

Okay, now that you've caught a keeper, how do you bring it onboard? Hoist it up by the body/tail? Use a snare?

    Shad count 1

Isn't the presence of Shad the begining of Sturgeon fishing? That 1st Shad's is known as Juan. And the others that follows are all Hamal. So when you see Juan then you'll see Hamal

    Two Weeks and Counting

I plan to check in Ainsworth State Campgounds off I-84 for the 1st night then see what's available to stay for the rest of the week. I don't know the area nor do I know where or which launch is near or the best. I'm playing it by ear and hopefully some can recommend/suggest where I should go...

    Two Weeks and Counting

Well then can you have the train stop running while I'm up there camping?:D Seriously though, I don't need to be along the river. Isn't there a campground within a half hour drive from the launch? PM me your number if you'd like.

    Cleaning sturgeon???

Yeah, but watch out for the tail when it spins around and slaps you  j/k :D

    Cleaning sturgeon???

I've only cleaned one using instructions that I got off the net. Using a razor blade I scored 2" wide strips just under the skin from the head to the tail, pulled the skin off the meat with pliers then used a fillet knife to cut the meat off the carcass. I removed all the red meat off once...

I've noticed that mono line is used for the leader. Why not wire?
