    Barview jetty

Throw jig heads in sizes 1-3 ounces with plastic scampi tails or swim baits. Cast out, let them sink to the bottom and slow retrieve. Something like below but without the shrimp ties. I'd suggest fishing the incoming tide, I personally don't think the time of day matters that much. Also, if you...

Kayak fishing the Oregon Rockfish Classic (ORC) 7-13-13

The largest kayak fishing tournament in the Northwest was held last Saturday out of Depoe Bay. This year we had 70+ yak anglers from Oregon, Washington and California. I thought I'd share some pictures and the results. It's a single heaviest fish tournament with prizes for the 1-10 spots. The...

    Recent Siletz reports???

I had some buddies fish it Saturday and Sunday close to the tide water. They managed a few fish on Saturday but none on Sunday. It sounded like they were doing better than most. It could be much better this weekend with the rain. Thus far it sounds like it's been hit or miss. It would probably...

What kind of rock is this?

Those are good eats! They can also be a ton of fun on light tackle.

I don't think so, the hardest part (after hooking one) is netting it. It takes a little practice but after a couple of times it's not too bad. With the kayak you may tighten the drag nearly all the way down and let the fish tow you around a little. There is enough resistance to slow the fish...

There is a black label too, even bigger! Popular for Halibut.

    Herring questions-help please

Hey Chris. 99% of the people I know fish green, regardless of the water. You can also put the brined herring in the freezer. If you have enough salt and it's mixed well it won't freeze. I stopped brining herring as I didn't see much of a difference between when I did and didn't. In the summer I...

    Thread for coast salmon 2012

Spent Saturday in the Astoria area, managed one 20" jack on a coastal tributary and picked up this beauty later in the afternoon at the mouth of the Big C. 22 lbs of yak fishing awesomeness :)

Thanks man. Let me know if you ever want to give it a shot. My inlaws are in Corvallis and I head for Depoe from there every so often.

A paddle kayak, capable of going in the ocean, will run you about 800-1200 new but sometimes you can find them in the 400-600 range used. The Hobies, peddle kayaks, are about 1800 new but you can sometimes find used ones in the 1200-1500 range.

The sure do. There are a couple of boats that have max weight capacities that would work. To name a few, the Hobie Outback (450 lb), Hobie Pro Angler (500lb) (12 and 14 foot) and the Ocean Kayak Prowler (450lb). You might want to double check those numbers, but I'm pretty sure they're right.

Your weight hits the bottom and stops moving :) It's usually non-stop action out there and the variety is awesome. You never know exactly what you're going to catch. Halibut, salmon, lings, cabs, blacks, etc. If the lings aren't biting it's a blast to grab the ultra-lite and hit some blacks on...

Thanks, I will have to give that a shot. However, I'd still like to not have to worry about it.
