The death of an old white boat: picture heavy

Did a really good job! That boat looks nothing like what it once did! Congrats on reworking that diamond in the ruff. :)

    Mainline and leader

8lb leader is all the lighter you will EVER need to go on the S Santiam. You can fish 6lb leader which will allow you to make effortless long casts with light lead, this is sometimes necessary when you want to fish the other side of the river, which would be the main reason behind lighter line...

    S.Santiam steelhead

I have bent maybe two hooks in my entire life , as in octopus hooks, you were clearly pulling to hard or were not matched with the right line rod rating. Having someone tell you that gamis bend is beyond retarded, the guy probably had the same issues as yourself, NO WAY a 8lb fish is bending a...

Scents, smells and using gloves with steelhead and salmon

My advice would be fish the right jig and you will not need shrimp anise or any other for of scent. Typical for the beginning steelhead/salmon angler to want to fish crap on his jigs. Either fish a shrimp or a jig , no need to combine the two .

    Tiny pond with skitish lunkers

cast a 4 "senko from 50 feet away laying on your back at 5am , at around 5:15 make one small twitch to the worm, roughly 11 minutes later give a slow but not to slow, kinda fast but kinda slow reel. If that doesn't work try again the next day! All joking aside try a small finesse type bait 4"...

    Just bored tying

These are by far some of the coolest looking jigs I have ever seen. I can appreciate you thinking outside of the oh so boring box of steelhead jigs. How many different ways can you dress up a pig, boy you sure found one very cool way of doing so. Them jigs will flat catch fish I would be shocked...

Plug cut herring rig with paravane. Will this work ok?

Where is this practice common? To use a diver with herring? I am just curious because in all my life I have never seen this method deployed. Dipsy divers in the ocean maybe, but more times then not a hoochie or commercial spoon would be used. , jet divers and herring lol ? Please tell me where...

Plug cut herring rig with paravane. Will this work ok?

How is that straight forward, I wasn't talking about what he said at all. Your initial post talks about using herring with divers, which I have never seen. That is why I commented on this post to begin with, hoping to share some information.

Plug cut herring rig with paravane. Will this work ok?

I think one of the best methods , is keeping it simple. Slider which can be a plastic slider or simple barrel swivel and bead, tie that to a bead chain and run 5-7 ' leaders. If you're fishing for trout you should shorten the leader to around 5' , For leader and hook I would suggest a mooching...

    Another Sandy steelhead :)

Great fish, congrats. I would guess her at around 10lbs. Taking into account that your arms are stretched towards the camera. Regardless of what she weighs job well done.

    Greenling

At night is the best time to catch black bass :) We use a light that floats on the water connected to a battery. Fishing is lights out. Try the last 1.5 hours of hi tide into hi slack and the first hour of the outgoing tide. Can be easy 100 fish nights.

    Double rig thoughts

I fish a dark colored jig green black red black gold black teal , mostly rabbit or hair. I then tie off my dropper right behind the jig head. Use a troutbead with some white yarn and shrimp scent. This can also be done with a split shot , really easy way to mimic a sandshrimp
