Fished yesterday on the Siletz and it likely be the last outing for me for the season. Life intrudes. I am in mourning, as this was one of my most active and successful since I set out to learn about catching salmon 10 years ago. I've fished on the Willamette, several sections of the Columbia, the Salmon, the Alsea, the Siuslaw, Tillamook Bay , and the Siletz. I love towing my modest boat around behind my Subaru and checking out these amazing places. I rented a cabin on the Alsea with a dock and had 4 days of rolling out of bed and into the boat. Some of my trips were guided and I appreciate that amazing local knowledge and dedication; I've enjoyed the banter between the boats and generous sharing of information, tips, and (in one case) beer. I got skunked plenty, but my tag has a respectable number with wild and hatchery Coho and Chinook and the freezer is full enough that bought a smoker - my coho from yesterday is currently undergoing the alchemical transmutation from the brown sugar & salt brine and it looks amazing.
