Summer carping

Certain things about summer carpin are perfect. Water levels, full sun, etc. but summer also brings the heat that gives the fish the mid day lull (I hate chasing sunning carp). In the summer, I actually pray for a stuff wind to keep some wave action going and mask my approach and cast as well as keep the fish active. A fly fisherman praying for wind...weird. Regardless, the late summer months have been good out west for carp.

Been catching the bulk of the fish on the hybrid, with a few coming on San Juan's or trouser worms etc. summer fish are tough, we have really had to feed them the fly, but with all that good light some of the visuals have been astounding. The biggest fish there was actually sunning and I threw a carp wooley at her from about 30 feet away. The fly hit just behind and too her right as she was faci g away from me and she flipped around in an instant to eat it. Awesome stuff!

I hope everyone is doing well...sad to see the summer go.

We are working on the hats. We should be able to sell some soon. Waiting on a few more colors and styles (though I dig the black and white trucker!). We have an all black that is pretty cool too. Should have something out on those soon.

That mirror was awesome...i haven't caught many this year, so it was a great fish. I caught two mirrors that day, one with this cool pattern:

I would definitely buy one of those hats, BUT, if you guys were to design ones with a flat bill with different designs, colors, snap backs, etc; I would at least buy 5 of them regardless of the price lol

Just the one logo, but we have an all black, flat brimmed one. I think I have 8-9 of those left.


My buddy david did the logo and has been working the designs. I don't even know what else, he has coming.

You always have awesome pics! All this talk of carping on this forum has intrigued me a lot so I went out for the 1st time last week trying to catch one. Man they are tough to catch! I've tied a few hybrid patterns learning from the video link in one of your last posts ( thanks John, very cool of you to give out that info) and hope to hook one soon. I know fly fishing for them is tough because they rely on smell so much but I love the challenge

They are tough Hobster! Spot 'em, stalk 'em, and put the fly within 4-6 inches of a feeding fish without spooking the fish. Once you manage all that, you just have to detect the take visually. Keep in mind, they can suck in a fly from about 1/3 of their body length away, so watch for gill flares, head turns, tails speeding up etc. You'll get one, and then the addiction will set in!
