Scammed by fake $100s

Years and years of selling on Facebook marketplace, and I finally got scammed last night.

Met a guy to sell an extra chainsaw I had, he looked it over and we made a deal, handed off cash and I checked/counted it as usual

Got home and realized they were fake...almost spot on, even the cop didn't think they were fake until they were marked.

The giveaway was the missing faces when held up to a light, and the ink mark

Either way I'm only out 25$ and my time. Still sucks!

No longer accepting 100s, there were a couple other red flags I put aside when meeting the guy, and sure enough it came back to bite me in the arse.

We didn't check with a light but it did have a fake grey thread

The saw only cost me 25$, it was an extreme mark down awhile ago because the box was ruined

Sorry to hear about that NKlamerus. I thought that kind of thing only happened on TV shows. I agree with @cchinook , maybe you will get a reward from the Secret Service and even come out ahead!

What did the cop, or your financial institution recommend you do with the bills?

The cop took them as evidence for now.

I actually saw the chainsaw listed again this morning on marketplace, sent that info in to update the case

If I had some rowdier friends here, I would go meet him under a different name

An undercover cop should offer to buy the saw with the bills he passed and see how he reacts.

I was thinking about trying the same lol if I had backup!

To add salt to the wound, the only reason I got cops involved was because about 11pm Friday night someone hit and run on my fiancee's car, which I was already in the process of rebuilding after she wrecked the front a few weeks ago!

So while I was filing for the accident I had the same officer file a report for the chainsaw deal

Definitely not my weekend!
