I'm trying to put together a trip to the John Day River this Thursday, Friday or Saturday, and I might possibly have an open seat. The exact date isn't set yet, but I should know in a day or 2.
Gimme a holler if there's anybody interested.

BUMP!! I was goin that way this week anyway. Would love to see some new water and slay some steel. I`m tired of waiting for the winters every year. I got gas $$, flies and spinners for trade and I`ll bring lots of shrimp!

Man o' man, gonna be a cold wet one fishing John Day friday. I'll be praying the freezing level stays above whatever level we'll be at!!
Thank God for propane heaters. :yay:

Still trying to put together a trip, and still have an open seat.
will go tomorrow or tuesday if I can find someone to go with.

Last weekends reports were fair to good, from what I hear.
This storm is going to change it a bit.
Today, would have been a good day to hit it.
40 deg and wind at 7 currently.
Sorry I can't go.:(

People talk about the wind on the John Day River. Where I come from(Tri-Cities) it's known as a lazy wind- it doesn't go around you, it cuts right through you. lol

hey rainman, you still want to try it this week? if so I'm dying for my first John Day trip.

empty seat filled.

Today is frog water over there.
I notice a couple of boats going out side the mouth on Trip Check.
Wind still out of the S, but light.
It can change in a heart beat,

Thanks for the report!

Yeah, I noticed the calm winds on the days that we weren't there. It's a crap shoot at best over there, guessing the winds.

Day before or after a storm.
I like to go for a week, but wifey does not like it any more.:(
You could pick your days.
That wind there is bad.
I watched a guy in a low sided 12 ftr, a few years back.
It was getting dark, we stopped and ask him if he had been there
before and cautioned him about wind + dark. He said OK, not worried.
About 4 hours later, I watched him pull in and bail his boat out.
Never noticed him or the boat again.
McNary can be very good now and effective Dec 1 you can fish at
night, in Oregon, if you are other wise legal. Check your regs.
Big area and lots of fish. Easy, right off the ramp.
Can blow there, but not as strong as the JD.

Go to ODOT road cams TripCheck - Road Cams, Road & Weather Conditions in Oregon - ODOT then click on the N section, then click on the little black camera icon just to the left of Arlington. The John Day River road cam at Le Page exit shows current temp and wind. It's great for showing you the days ya shoulda went. lol
