New Zealand: A Trip Remembered

My family and I arrived home Saturday 1/7/12 from our visit to NZ. If you ever get to go there I guarantee you'll love it. Spending Christmas in the summer bends the senses a little. One day we went on a twilight fishing charter out on the Waitemata Harbor out of Auckland. The primary catch was snapper. The limit is 12 fish and no licence is needed for salt water fishing. Here are a few pictures for starters.

Portland is called the City of Roses and Auckland is called the City of Sails. I wonder why?

Carrie with a fish on.

My brother-in-law with a decent size snapper.

Auckland skyline on the trip back.

Digest that awhile...more to come.......

Gene I'm trying not to exploit the forum by over posting my trip here but I will continue as long as members are interested. I've go one more river to show if you'd like to see it.

The Ohinemuri

The Ohinemuri

For a Christmas gift, my sister set up a fishing guide to show us around the Ohinemuri (O-Hee-neh-muir-ee) River in the Karangahake (Ka-rang-ah-hack-eh) Gorge. I know...a real mouthful isn't it. The river is easily accessed from the hwy and runs through a steep gorge filled with dense native bush and Punga tree ferns. The Ohinemuri is only an hour and a half away from Auckland and would be a good 1 day fishing destination. Most fish range between 16 to 20 inches but larger fish can be caught. My son took most of the pictures and he has yet been able to extract all of them from his iphone. Mine came from a poor ISO setting on my camera so not the best quality.

Our guide Ian Gibbs is a fly fishing champion and this is why he can get away with wearing pants like those on the river. I don't think it's a normal Kiwi fishing style of river gear.lol

A fish broke off my tippet and Cody managed to land two. These are of one of those fish.
