Looking for camping and fishing advice

Hi everybody, I hope you all have been lucky anglers as of late! :thumb: I have been wanting to do a bit of camping soon and would really like to fish at the same time. To be honest, I'm a little tired of lil stocker trout and would love a good shot at either some larger trout or maybe even a catfish. I was wondering if anybody would be willing to suggest a place to try out. We would like to stay within three hours of Eugene and it would be great to find a camp site right on the water :). Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate all information and guidance as always! Tight lines!

You might consider camping on the coast and surf fishing.

Thanks for the reply pinstriped. I guess I failed to mention that I'm looking to stay inland either on a lake or river as I have been spending a lot of time on the coast lately..

Crane Prairie is I think within 3 hours, best of both.

Well. That makes my suggestion much less helpful, if well intentioned.

I second crane prairie! wonderful lake to camp and fish.

Awesome! That's gonna be the spot! I'll be sure to post a report and hopefully pics after the trip :D

Crane Prairie is a nice spot, haven't been there in a long time but I seem to recall the chipmunks are pretty much tame at the campground. They have asphalt lanes in the campground so if you've got a dog, be careful that they don't burn their paws because it's way too damn hot for their bare paws on blacktop!

I think you'll need a boat, from what I recall.

You can go up the forest road along the middle north fork willy just before Oakridge, it's fly only and you won't find a bunch of huge ones without doing some exploring, but it's a great spot, a nice drive, and there are a few campgrounds back in there - although tweakers cut the water pump off at Kiahanie when I was there a few weeks back. Eventually the road comes out up the mckenzie a ways as well. Middle North fork is killer spot to hunt mushrooms as well once it starts raining.

I went online to reserve a camp spot at Crane Prairie the other day and they want around $50 for two nights! Shesh the economics of camp spot pricing has pushed me right out the market it seems  I wish there was a good safe spot to camp for free or at least a spot that is affordable for me, maybe $10-15 a night or so.. Bah!

I primitive camp at Crane Prairie over by the dam. Free.

Not sure how far you're willing to drive but Lemolo Lake has 10 to 15 dollar camping. With good bank fishing too. There's also 15 dollar a day camping at Diamond lake. It's not right on the water but there's water, flush toilets, and showers. For 15 a day/night that's not bad.

Oh great thanks. My gf really wants to go camping for her birthday weekend and I really like to take her (and do some fishing myself ;))

Alright, we talked it over and it sounds like a go. We did have one question- is it doable and legal to just park off to the side of the road, walk into the woods, find a flat spot and set up camp?
