John Day in June

Anyone out there have advice for fishing the John Day in early summer? We primarily bank fish with lures but do fly fish occasionally.

what part of the JD are you fishing?

Upper?
Middle?
Lower?

We haven't ever fished any part of the river before, so we really don't know where to start. What would be your first choice?

The closer to to mountains you go, the colder the water gets so you'll be fishing for trout. As you head towards the mouth the water gets a lot warmer so small mouth live there.

I'm not sure if there are salmon or steelhead at that time of year.

Thanks. I think my dad was hoping to get into some bass. Anything in particular work well for them? Plastic worms, tube bait, topwater?

I was flyfishing for them.......

That works too. Thanks. Were you using that little crawdad pattern?
