Fly fishing Henry Hagg

I thought I might head out to Henry Hagg lake this weekend since our fine rivers are all blown to sh*t. To make things a little more interesting though I thought I would bring out the old 4wt. Does anyone have any advice about what to use - how deep to fish or where out there? I've only ever used bait around the boat ramps in those parts. Trying to get a little more adventurous. PMs welcome, as always. Thanks y'all.

if you dont have a sink tip crimp a small split shot on about 15-20 inches above the fly (soft hackle or some sort of wooly or krystal bugger in black or olive) cast, let it sink a little and do medium speed ten inch strips with a pause every now and then . if you have a boat, tube or toon you can also troll this setup slowly

Perfect, man. Exactly what I needed. Sadly, I don't have a floating apparatus but I'll get by.

Are any of the creeks that feed into or out of the lake worth fishing?

if you can get to them on foot any source of flowing water that goes into any lake is always a good place to look for fish.. im in the same boat as you, im chasing stockers tomorrow because the rivers are blown out lol

The creeks should be good. There is a small picnic area near Sain creek on the nw side of Hagg, plus Wall creek is there as well. There are a couple good arms on the north side as well, just have to hike into them. Casting room could be an issue in a few spots though. there is a big feeder creek on the north side of the lake, Tanner Creek, iirc. There is a lot of grassy area around it that should give you lots of casting room.

Go to Costco and get that cheap pontoon, would make your time there much easier.

Thanks Van. I probably would get a pontoon if I was planning to spend a lot more time out there. I prefer to risk my life in the middle of a glacial river, hunting giants, but when weather prevents a weekend thrill-ride, a relaxing time out on the lake is hardly a poor compromise. It'd just be nice to pick up a couple of stockers for the dinner table.

Thanks for the tips!

Gotta be careful when fishing the creeks - they technically don't open until the end of May - so there's some gray area where the lake becomes the creek that you might get a ticket if a cop were so inclined.

Thanks for the heads up, GungasUncle! I was not aware of that.
