It seems to that the Trout I have cleaned have been a lot more red meated. Anyone else notice that? Thanks ODFW for the really nice fish this time.

The stocked trout are fed commercial feed at the hatchery, which determines the "redness" of the flesh. It could be they changed the diet that the trout are on, you could call the Springfield ODFW office and ask them, they are good people that seem to enjoy answering questions from the public.

Best,

It's here:

Springfield Field Office
3150 E Main Street
Springfield, OR 97478-5800
Tel: 541-726-3515 Fax: 541-726-2505

It's the feed, they have been adding carotenoids to the food so the meat doesnr look so much like a dough ball.

This is what ODFW told me too.

You may want to read up on this, before eating any more of them.

Thanks for the link, just to be clear though, I was only passing on information, I don't even fish for planter trout let alone allow anyone in my family to eat them.
