Perch! I hap hazardously tried throwing out an ounce of weight off a 6.5 foot trout rod into the ocean in random places near low tide with some shrimp. Fail. LOL But I liked being by the ocean! Seeing your pics is exciting since you know what you're doing and it means they must be out there...

I've only gone off the Newport public fishing dock in front of the brewery. Haven't tried Waldport before. I suspect that at least at newport where my traps end up, the ground might be too rocky for the boxes. Then again... I've only caught a few legal dungies. I wish I could go out more, but it...

Well, I can't really throw a ring either and so usually have my BF do that for me. LOL But the box I have is a cheap Danielson type so I don't think the crabs can get into it effectively.I can see how they would be great for people letting them soak for hours, but from the pier rings are way way...

Can't speak for others, but I am land bound and use rings because I can actually catch something in them when I pull them after 15-20 minutes. I have three rings and one box trap. I bring the trap because I have it, wish I never bought it.

Nice catch, how many hours did that take?

Is it any good for those without a boat if the banks are steep?

Thanks. Saw they put in 75 of the big ones in there. Last year I heard they put in like 3k brook trout, wasn't sure if they did something like that this year.

So, did anyone go? It was cold this morning on the way to work and weather looks even colder tomorrow, think it's worth a trip later this week or weekend to have enough action to entertain kids?

We got a limit of brookies the first weekend after they stocked the 3k. Took 30 minutes at sunrise and all were 8-10 inches, one was 11 inches.

LOL, sorry about the lack of pic w/o camera, but while playing with sunfish, the tiniest little bass decided to come and see what was going on. The little monster was maybe 2-3 inches long from nose to tail and his mouth was HUGE. He could have easily swallowed a sharpie if he was long enough...

Best of luck! Which dialect does he speak? I speak cantonese, but it's just household stuff you'd use with parents... I suck at fishing though... Most grad students from china speak mandarin here at osu.
