The proverbial 'how to do it' question

Thanks, Troutdude. Thinking we're gonna make a trip out there on Monday when he doesn't have school. Be a good way to keep us out of trouble that day. Colby, I'm thinkin' you just might have asked the $64k question :-) We've hooked into some great smallmouth. I usually NEVER keep bass, but the...

The proverbial 'how to do it' question

Odd, just tried to post and think it got lost. Hopefully this doesn't show up twice. I've been going way too light with the sinker, and combined with a shorter pole, probably haven't been getting anywhere close to trout water. Good call with the bead. Don't want to get the swivel and sinker...

The proverbial 'how to do it' question

Very cool suggestions. As I'm looking through these, I suspect the biggest thing to change from what I've been doing is to add a leader. So the rigging would go something like this: My line > slip sinker > swivel > 2' to 3' leader > hook How heavy of a slip sinker? And, what sized hook tends to...

The proverbial 'how to do it' question

Hi, all Great pics from the weekend opener. Has me anxious to get out to the lake. Here's the deal, tho. As a transplanted mid-western bass fisherman, I'm having a really tough time to switching over to catching trout. I'll get one occasionally on a rooster tail or kastmaster, but that's about...

Not a bad day but a little frustrating

Hey, Fitzi You heard anything about low water levels at Patoka? Saw a pic last week on Facebook from a friend and a channel was in the pic, but the rest was all grassland. Couldn't believe it. Left IN back in '98, so I haven't been up on anything there fish-wise in a long time. Used to fish...

Launching a kayak or pontoon at Hagg lake

I've never had an issue launching a canoe at ramp C. I do try to wait, though, for things to settle down a bit if it is busy. I've never really timed it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it takes my son and I a couple extra minutes to get into the water and then for me to get the vehicle out of...

    Trout bank fishing

Anyone consistently get trout with the rooster tails in a specific spot in the water column? I've caught precisely one out of a weed bed and that's it.

    Its getting closer

Welcome, SluggoVW. By all means, bring your friends. Maybe the trout will go for some lil bugs :D

    Its getting closer

Was just thinking about this today and lo and behold here we are talking about it. In lieu of getting new gear this year, how 'bout we all chip in for some dumber fish?

    Any recent Hagg bass reports?

Nice work! I've had NO success with the crappie this year. Those jigs normally slaughter them for me, but not recently. Surprised you found them that shallow with the water temp as high as it is right now.

    Early morning trout?

I'm in the same boat, so to speak :D What's really funny to me is that I almost made a flip comment about lending him my wedding ring and saying something along the lines that fishing is all that it is good for these days. Glad I didn't do that now. And, I don't have to worry about the Mrs...

    Early morning trout?

Drat, posted twice for some reason, so I have to edit the second one to this. How do you delete a post?

    Early morning trout?

As someone who is perpetually trout frustrated (grew up in the Midwest where bass was the game), I feel your pain. Wormosa is on to something. For trolling, that is usually the killer setup. Use a decent sized leader of 18"+ and be sure to keep lots of line behind the boat, as much as 75'. Speed...

Henry Hagg Lake fishing reports 2009 - 2018

Went out with my son hoping to get into some crappie. Hit our fav hole, got two right away (the first on the first cast), then not another crappie at all. On the upside, did get a great 3lb smallie on ultralight gear. Had a blast landing this gal.

    Culling fish?

Thanks, wozniasm. Hadn't thought about that angle of it. Of course, all of this is dreaming on my part, I have to catch the D@#*n things first ;-)
