I got my boys started on fishing this summer and warm water fish bite so well it seems a good target for kiddos. I watch a lot of videos on youtube and watch people on the lake. My biggest question is why on earth don't Bass fisherman seem to keep any of them to eat? They taste great, seems odd...
Looks like you were bank fishing, I havent had a lot of luck off the bank for sea bass, the times I have caught them it is always on smaller igs and sometimes bait like sand shrimp...
There are some beautiful trout down here, they tend to disappear come trout season though. The rivers get to warm and they go up into the smaller feeder creeks where it is cooler. I'm not a huge fan of the stocked rainbows, but I am going to make more of an effort to hit the lakes around here...
Glad you enjoyed your trip to our little piece of heaven. There are rivers and streams south of the elk all the way to california border that are beautiful and contain that untouched feeling you get when floating the elk. I'd love to have about 2 weeks to go south and fish all the little creeks...
I caught this guy fishing down on the sixes, hit a jig with a sandshrimp tail on it. Thought it was a neat picture so I wanted to share it with ya'll .
I fish the sixes pretty regularly for salmon/steelhead. I hike the river and bank fish, usually you can find me somewhere between midway and the recreation area up at the forks. I will warn you that the sixes and elk have both been incredibly slow this year so far, but they often get a good...
The runs are pretty depressed here this year, but it is beautiful and if you're willing to put in the effort of getting into this terrain you can mostly fish alone. I really enjoy the experience and will likely give trout a try this summer down here.
No, it is further up river from that. A rope would be nice to have though, it is a bit of a steep climb down. This is the big corner where there is a bit of dramatic drop in the river.
I caught this sea run beauty fishing for Steelhead on the elk river the other day. It hit a 12mm soft bead in the tailout of a swift pool. It was large enough that I thought I had a small steelhead on for a minute.
None of us can tell you if it was a fish or the bottom. When you set the hook make sure you are tight to the bobber before yanking. Giving it a jerk with slack or belly in the line does nothing but yank the jig out of the fishes mouth.
Got to the river at daylight and found quite a few people for a thursday. Typically with the people I'd have bypassed the area and went hiking, but I have been a bit under the weather the last few days, and we were supposed to get some dangerous wind/rain storms so I planted my butt in front of...
Got 2 more yesterday before the rivers rose. Both were wild and one wouldn't pose for a picture. I started off bobber and jig fishing with a egg sucking leach patterned jig, fished around and got nothing for about 1.5hrs. Went back through with a nightmare jig and a big red soft bead as a...
