try both they will all work, easiest fish in the river. oh yeah and I live about 5 minutes from the umpqua river, almost the only river I fish year round. Maybe those portland smallies like night crawler.
worm is the way for the catfish though!
You can pretty much catch smallies, anywhere in the main. i prefer down by elkton or in the tyee area. If you want to catch a lot just a jig head and a walmart white grub will do it.
Hey there,
All the lakes past about Steamboat area up the Umpqua have brooks in them. Lots of browns in the Tokatee system and all the forebays. Tokatee is my favorite spot I would think its close and there is lots of different pieces of water to cover with the forebays and what not.
Just my experience fishing on the Umpqua for cats. They will eat worms well which is all we ever use, and I doubt you can get them to bite during the day only dusk and dark.
Well did you go? I know the fish are there cause they are up here at River Forks like crazy, should be real good for the next month or so. I still haven't been able to get on one cause the damn steelhead keep eating my stuff. Caught about 5 small coho though nothing over probably 3 lbs though.
Was up there about two weekends ago when they planted the trophy trout. Tons of people counted like 29 boats at one time. Fishing from the bank not great for us I caught one. Boat or tube is the best no motors on the lake either. There was a guy with a fly pole that was just hooken them time...
Just went perch fishing last weekend they are pink fin perch on the oregon coast mostly, and sand shrimp or prawn is the best. We caught about 40 or so, good times
Go to Bi-mart and get the Lamiglas 7ft pole they have it is lifetime over the counter replacement and a great rod, cost you 57.99 I think. I have broke mine twice and get a new one everytime no reciept
