Heya.. how high up were you? I hit Eagle Fern and below and hunted the better part of Friday morning and saw only a few darkies.. was still a lot of fun tho. :)
With some hard work they can be pulled out of the lower. Don't let folks tell ya they are 'lock jawed'. While I had many an empty handed trip it paid off the other night and was very rewarding.

Cross the bridge, park. Take the trail..which follows Eagle Creek to Clack.. then do a little Rambo to get to the river.. follow your nose. The trail takes a little bush wackin or you could follow the creek.
Try around milepost 9. There is a little road that heads down to the river to a boat launch. A German named place, can't remember the name.
