Get a Berkley IM8 from Bimart and a matching Shimano spinning reel. Should be near your $100 price range. Fill it with 120 yards of Maxima 12lb test and you will be set for summer and winter fish. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes!

Go out as far as safe and drift a small herring or chovey about 8 feet under a bobber. You will be suprised at the results

Spool up with 50lb braid. Put about 20 yards of mono on the spool first. This will keep the braid from spinning on the spool.

Funny thing is that there are actually sturgeon in the Alsea. I have seen keepers come out of tidewater. Both were accidentals caught during fall nook season.
