    Questions about Wallowa

The ODFW report says the ice is off the lake but fishing, as you'd imagine, for kokanee is slow. I hope the weather is nice enough for you to fish when you go. Apparently there was virtually no fishing last year in June because of the wind.

    Questions about Wallowa

Usually planting Mysis shrimp is the kiss of death for kokanee fisheries. It's rare that they co-exist in a positive way like they seem to in Wallowa. Here's a link that will get you started if you want to learn more about Mysis/Kokanee interactions...

    Questions about Wallowa

In doing the research for the trip I found one theory for the big fish year at Wallowa to be that a landslide on the inlet river reduced the amount of spawining habitat for the fish for awhile and they had a reduction in the number of fish in the year classes that were affected by the slide...

    Questions about Wallowa

troutdude, Thanks for the link to Kokanee power. I checked their site but didn't find an archive of articles but then I'm not a member. I've read the threads on this site and although there are a fair number of them they don't discuss what I need. I will repay information with information and...

    Questions about Wallowa

wallowafisher, Thank you. That's the sort of info that is helpful. I've tried the marina for info but they haven't provided much other than say it blew very hard last year during the time I plan to be there. Here in the lake I fish kokanee on, the normal progression is that they are schooled up...

    Questions about Wallowa

I'm planning to fish Wallowa this summer right after the 4th of July. Can anyone give me a hint about the depth the Kokanee hold in that lake early summer, do you troll close to shore or look out in the lake for schools and if the weather is rainy/windy there early summer. I understand that last...

2013 fishing regulations changes Davis Lake, Deschutes county

First. Don't look up my shorts! Second, this is an average fish from Crane Prairie with the photo taken 40 years ago this year. Before Bass. Sorry that you have to turn your head but I can't seem to rotate the image. It's not a huge fish but the lake was stuffed with fish this size on up. In...

    Big Catch!

If it was California that would be an adult Threadfin Shad but Washington is not supposed to have any. If you catch or see another one like that, look at the dorsal fin and see if the ray closest to the tail is long and extends back an inch or so. If it does, keep it, put it in a jar of alcohol...

    Stripers on the surf

I'm with you. I love to fish for stripers but they don't mix well with salmonids when those fish are in a decline or generally stressed more than normal.

    Stripers on the surf

Another thing to consider is that stripers are very migratory. On the East coast they move up and down the coast over their entire range so I suppose the incidental fish caught by perch fishermen could be from anyplace including the Sacramento/San Joaquin system in Calif. The major difference...

    Stripers on the surf

Leon Adam's book is a great one but as noted mostly for California stripers. The calendar in the back is as accurate today as it was in the 50's. You can extend the dates to Oregon I would think as far as when they are in the rivers. April-May is the best down here so that is probably true in...
