    Crab basics

Sea lions like salmon too much for me. Down here, they tear into pots with fish entrails, but don't bother pots with chicken for bait.

Well that's what I thought too.

    Crab basics

Some good mates limit out every time in September, so August makes sense. I'm usually salmon fishing all of September, so hate to break that up, especially being 4 hours from salt. "crabbing is best during the months that end with "R", which would only include Sept-Dec, right? I use chicken...

    Crab basics

I've only crabbed (in Charleston) for maybe 7-8 years, and had mixed results. So, I'm trying to figure out the best times to sink the pots. I live 4 hours away, so I'd rather spend time harvesting big, full crabs, as we all would! šŸ˜ I've read that male dungies molt in the fall, females in the...

Thanks Roger! I appreciate the insight! Merry Christmas and a fishy New Year!

    January crabbing

Well, sort of both! I missed Sept/Oct, so looking to go hunting in January around Charleston. I'm not sure of when they molt. I've caught limits in Feb before, but they were all pretty light.

Any thoughts on prospects of catching full bugs?

Boat ramp thefts at Green Peter

I manage a trail system in Jacksonville (just outside Medford), and have had problems with people damaging trails. I bought a trail camera, and mounted it high in a tree. I get good photos of deer, and haven't caught any perps yet, but it might be something for you to think about. Maybe...

    Steaming crab

I boil in sea water for 15 min immediately after cleaning, and have no sticking problem whatsoever. Could that be a difference? Crabs are lightly rinsed and iced immediately after cooking.

    1/26 Charleston.

Two of us were out last week with similar results, both with the pots and the fishing. Beautiful weather, but marginal results. The crabs we caught were all pretty full, and very sweet. I wonder how long it takes for Dungies to get from 4-5" to 5.75"? With all the little fellas down there...

    Angler harassment

We have conservation easements around where I live, and that may have been to what he was referring.

    Crabbing at Charleston.

I have a feeling that rain has more to do with it than anything. Fresh water flowing into the estuary following or during a big rain event will alter the salt content, and probably keep crabs from coming in. Would be interesting to hear from others as to whether or not they caught good numbers...

    Crabbing at Charleston.

Went out Sunday & Monday (1/26-27). 16 nice crabs between two guys, but for that time should have had 48. Hard rain, which is no problem, but the wind was constantly hammering. We were one of only two boats out. Poor timing. Wish I knew how to gauge my trips from Jacksonville better. Maybe...

I'll bet 'adventures' is what he's looking to stay away from! ;) Just a guess.
