Where should I go to have my one shot at fishing for salmon?

This Iowan has always wanted to go salmon fishing, and I'm getting one chance. Researching this is very overwhelming since I'm not familiar with any of it. Even reading through all the forum is too much. I just want someone to give me their thoughts. After years of raising kids at home, hubby says we can go. I've gathered that fall is the best. I'm partial to Portland because I have a nephew there I'd like to visit, or should I look into Washington for better fishing? I'd also like recommendations on guided fishing trips. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Buoy 10 (Astoria, OR, Warrenton, OR, or Illwaco, WA) will be almost a sure thing if you go with a guide this fall!

The fall run salmon stack up like cord wood before they come up the Columbia River.

^^^ What he said ^^^ :thumb: And, it's a fairly short drive from Portland to the coast.

Yes, buoy 10!!!! I've been there an limited out, w/out a guide but with some really experienced friends. Get a guide and limit at buoy 10 for sure

There are a lot of great spots in the Puget Sound region also.
