Tips for beginner anglers in west metro area?

Hi all,

I am new to fishing and so far have struggled to hook anything besides a single smolt, but I have yet to become discouraged. I live in Hillsboro and am limited to bank fishing, I have been primarily targeting bass and trout at Henry Hagg lake with a solid 0% success rate. No luck at Bethany Pond which is the closest stocked location to me, but have yet to try Commonwealth in Beaverton. I’ve also given Dorman Pond a shot for trout earlier this year, but haven’t tried for bass yet there. At this point I am frankly open to catching anything other than a bunch of weeds. I am wondering if any of my neighbors on the west side have any tips, tricks or spots that I should try that might help me catch my very first fish! Thanks in advance

Ive done very well this time of year for lots of speicies on a bobber and 1" to 2" chunk of nightcrawler set a couple feet under the water up to a few feet under for surface feeding fish i got this 3 to 4lb trout 2wks ago on that setup out on rock creek resvr. Good luck and welcome to the forum

Here's how to rig up. One on the left uses a sliding sinker/weight, so you can adjust how far your bait floats OFF of the bottom. The other pic shows a slip bobber; so you can also adjust the depth of your OFFerings.

I go fishing for the outdoor beauty and all the crazy things that happen along the way. Birds crashing into the water to get something to eat. Otters, sealions eating my salmon or steelhead. Thanks for all your great tips! I tried one of the spots in the ODFW list shared here and caught my first fish! Just a little Bluegill but a fish is a fish! Was pretty exciting, can’t wait to catch lots more!
