Smallies on the Umpqua

Are they biting pretty good on the umpqua this time of year? I'd like to take my kayak out and try for some. Also any good launch spots for a kayak west of the fork?

they really don't start biting (from what i understand) until May/June and the best is in July,but i have also heard of the smallies on the bite in April. so i would say get out and give it a try! the worst that can happen you spent a day on the river fishing :)
 
Yea the big females bite early but I wasn't sure about this early. Water probably is still a bit too cold, although its rising quickly. Ill have to head down there this week and see!
 
FYI- water temp near the top of tide, just below Scottsburg, was 49F on Friday...
