Santiam river

Does anybody know any hatchery steelhead or salmon fishing spots for the South santiam river?

I haven't fished that river in many years. Too much pressure, IMO, and not enough fish--for the Springers and Summers. Fall and Winter fish runs are pretty much non-existent. So I'd not recommend any trips until mid-May for Springers, with the Summers following behind them. An average of 4,000 spring Chinook, 4,700 summer steelhead, and 670 winter steelhead are collected annually.

But if you want to go any way...

The South Santiam River is easily accessible for bank angling just below Foster Dam on both the north and south banks, near the confluence of Wiley Creek, at Camp Koinonia off North River Drive, at Northside Park in town, and at Pleasant Valley Bridge on the west end of Sweet Home.

FYI, here are the 2023 reg's:

The Santiam River in Oregon offers some great spots for both steelhead and salmon fishing. Here are a few key areas to check out:

North Santiam River (Below Big Cliff Dam)
  • Target species: Summer steelhead, spring Chinook salmon
  • Best time: Summer months (May to September)
  • Access points: Packsaddle Park, Minto Park, Stayton
  • Notes: This section of the river is popular for both steelhead and salmon fishing due to the colder water releases from the dam.
South Santiam River (Below Foster Dam)
  • Target species: Winter steelhead, spring Chinook salmon
  • Best time: Early spring through summer (April to July for Chinook, December to April for steelhead)
  • Access points: Waterloo Park, Pleasant Valley Bridge
  • Notes: Hatchery fish are commonly found here, and the river is heavily stocked.
Stayton to Jefferson Stretch
  • Target species: Steelhead, Coho salmon
  • Best time: Late fall and early winter (October to December for Coho, winter steelhead)
  • Access points: Stayton, Jefferson, and several roadside pullouts
  • Notes: This area is easily accessible and offers good fishing conditions for both species, especially during fall salmon runs.
Green’s Bridge
  • Target species: Winter steelhead, fall Chinook salmon
  • Best time: Fall through early spring (October to March)
  • Access points: Green’s Bridge Park
  • Notes: A popular spot, especially for winter steelhead.
Santiam River Confluence (With Willamette River)
  • Target species: Chinook salmon, steelhead
  • Best time: Spring through fall (April to September)
  • Access points: Private and public boat ramps near the confluence
  • Notes: Fishing is best around the confluence during high migration periods.
Be sure to check local regulations for specific fishing seasons and limits before you head out!

Do you know where on the Alsea or Siletz to fish?
Or any other rivers

Yep. Nooks and Steel are largely a coastal stream phenomenon, at this time of the year. Try Five Rivers area on the Alsea. Or Moonshine Park, and farther up the gorge, on the Siletz. But they are likely a bit more than an hour away from Albany. With the Alsea probably being the farthest away. Here are more spots.

There is no salmon or steelhead fishing any closer; at this time of year. All such fishing happens on the coast for now. It's spring and summer runs that happen on the Santiam River.
