I was out fishing tonight and saw a bug on the side of the water on some grass it had a red body black legs and wings and huge black feathery antennas and was wondering what it was?, not so good at my bug identification yet...

beetle-ish, ant-ish, moth-ish? how big?

Best way I can describe it is a tied fly. Flying insect but clumsy flyer. Just under an inch long very thin like a size 12 hook size.

I'm trying to imitate it now but can't figure out how to make super thin black legs I was going to use black fox hair but can't figure out how to make it stock out the sides?

Sounds like a midge e.g. http://bugguide.net/node/view/467461

Not certain what would be best to tie such a pattern but if you search for example Magic Midge tying there are few videos and articles that seem to have useful leads. I hope that is at least somewhat helpful to you.

It defiantly had those antenna but in black also the body was full red I mean red red and legs wings and tail were pitch black. Are there different types of midges?
