Opal Creek Wildreness

Hey guys! I'll be hiking the Opal Creek Wildreness this upcoming Wednesday and I'm wondering if any of you have any tips on the area. I've hiked it once but never fished it and I know there's a few lakes said to hold wild rainbow and brookies but I have no clue what the regs are. I looked it up online but couldn't find much info. All I know is that one website said "catch and release only; no barded hooks" which is fine by me. I'll probably toss a few spinners maybe flies under a bobber too. Any advice would be awesome! Thanks guys!

Ive been up there hiking before. Its a real nice area.. but never fished that creek or Opal lake. I have been wanting to visit Opal lake for years, but never have. I have gone to Tumble lake and fished there a few times.. its pretty close to Opal, but not in the "Opal creek Wilderness". I could tell you about that hike.

Have you found out any more info ?

Found out you can indeed fish Opal lake and all of Opal Creek. There's Brooks in the lake and bows and Cutties in the creek. Headed out tomorrow wish me luck

Cool. Good luck. I've hiked the area but didn't see anyone with fishing gear. We love to hear a report.

If you are on Facebook, there is a group called "That Oregon Life" you should check out. There was a recent post there about hiking and fishing the Opal Creek area. You can ask about it and should get good responses. Hope this helps. Don't forget to post your fish porn when you get back. :thumb:

Hiked from the trailhead along Little Northfork Santiam which I thought was Opal creek. I caught two small rainbows (maybe steelhead babies) and released unharmed. Didn't take fishing as serious as I planned do to lack of available fishing water and high number of hikers. Did see one other guy with a rod but didn't see him fishing. Also turns out Opal Lake isn't where I thought it was.... Lol... But it is within the same wilderness area.
