The radar is their new broadband 4g. It draw a lot less power than the other units. I looked at radar unit for quite a while before making a decision. I went with this modle because of the low power draw and low emissions. It's a safe unit. I used to fish out of Newport and I remember a few of those foggy days. It would seem like you were out there all alone, then the fog would lift and I would be shocked to see all the other boats around. The radar is going to be nice.
For a display head I went with the HDS gen2 10. It has a 10.4 inch display screen and sonar, gps chartplotter, radar and gauge displays. It's going to take me some time to figure it all out, but I'll have all winter to do it. I put a HDS gen2 5 out at the rear steering station. It's the same as the one at the helm just smaller.
For the vhf radio I picked the lowrance link 8. It links to the gps system and when you push the emergency button it send a digital message to the Coast Guard with your lat and lon. Again it going to take me all winter to figure all this new gear out.
I say our next gathering should be on Lon's boat...:thumb:
Mike thanks for sending that link I'll signup for sure.
No problem. There is a lot of info that can be entered regarding your boat and crew that the CG can use in an emergency situation.
Hope none of us ever need to use it but it is a good piece of insurance when out in the big blue.
