There is access right down to the water at Kiwanis Park which is at the south entrance off of 3 Mile Lane. Never fished it but I see folks down there drowning worms and such. I'd guess bass and catfish. It's not posted since it is a City park.
Tried that today with the kid. Usually get some nice bass from there. There is an old boat launch there. Floods ruined it and no one ever fixed it up.
When I went there today, there are danger signs. I kept going and found that most of the road and part of the old boat launch has fallen into the river. There is NO other access to the river along Joe Dancer Park. I have walked the whole thing and the brush is not passble to the river. Dont waste your time.
Knew the park was there, but wasn't sure if it went all the way to the river or not. Though from reading the regs, looks like just flies and lures on streams, which blows. Am sure you'd do great with a worm or two. And makes it tough for kids that way, too.
There are a few farm ponds north of Westside Rd. that hold some huge bass. If you catch the farmer on a good day they sometimes allow catch and release.
Can try the boat launch in Newberg (on the Willy). Not a ton of bank but have caught bass, trout, steelhead, salmon and seen a sturgeon caught there.
Also Yamhill Locks Park (east of Layfette on 99) Good bank access. Good bass. Seen some salomon there but dont know it they are legal or not.
Dayton has a boat launch. very little bank access but can get some nice bass and carp.
Boat launch in St. Paul on the Willy also. Smoe bank access.
Wheatland Ferry has tons of bank access and boat launch. Catch almost everything there. (on the Willy)
Yamhill river out by Willimina and the casino has some trout.
Try Willimina Pond for trout and bass.
Take a drive up to East Lake (need a 4WD)
That should keep you busy for a while.......
Not 100% true the no other way to the yamhill river in Joe dancer but the washed out boat ramp if you drive all the way in the park and keep going past the skate park and past the kiddy play land and past the soccer fields till your at the last parking spot in the little parking lot that seems out of place in the first place well that where you get your gear lock up your ride and start walking in the direction of the tree line you will see the Town E's style machete blazed cut out trail to the water follow it great Beach for fishing and swimming in the summer I used to spend long hot days there with my daughter that was back before she was a teenager but times have changed a lot over just a few short years enter at your own risk the homeless the danger druggies and the mentally I'll are by circumstance being pushed into the Sherwood Forest like hideaways so that thay can slam a 14% slurricane and sit down and smoke the cigarette butts they collected from the ashtray s around town or find your self face to face with some deranged tweaker experinceing psychosis you never knowTried that today with the kid. Usually get some nice bass from there. There is an old boat launch there. Floods ruined it and no one ever fixed it up.
