It's been a real slow week at the hatchery, lots of people but not much catching.
With the springer in the newspaper the springer crowd has already started to crowd up the bank.

Been fishing all day but no luck till the last couple hours.

None on the usually worked, no luck on the flies, no luck on the spinners or spoons. No tugs on the roe, pink worm, nothing.

Haven't tried jigs in a while, slapped on the adjust-a-bubble and a pink jog. Still nothing... I started thinking the there aren't many winters around yet so I grabbed the nightmare pattern aero jig. Second cast boom bubble down. After some tug of war fish on the bank

Fat long dark buck. The blue tape on the rod is measured to 32inches. Biggest steelhead to date, smoked up and made great dip!

Went back today put on the black and red aero jig. Busted this fish, brightest fish I've caught in months lol!!

I think I'm gettin down with the jig now.

I think I have learned every bank technique except plunking pretty good. But I think I know what's next lol

The rogue river, sorry guild have started with that ha.

Try the nightmare that wolly bugger makes. Or any nightmare pattern that has some reflective tinsel stuff in the black marabou. Killer.

This is what I use exclusively if using a store bought jig. Haven't found one better....First Bite has some great quality jigs but the Wooly ones have produced if not 100's of steelhead over the years. Have fun out there....It gets addicting watching your bobber slip under, especially when you start calling your bobber downs. Tight Lines:dance:

was just wondering if it was the south umpqua because your some what close

Gotta love the nightmare. Every fish i've hooked (all 3 of them:lol:) on a bobber/jig has been on a nightmare. That chromer is bright too!

Nice fish. Thats too bad the springer crowd is starting to show up. If the flows are real low i like the touvell area for winters.

yeah, that springer was an exception. They usually don't see the first springer up there until sometime in April, but May is when it starts to really turn on. The steelhead show up late...like starting now... we use to catch them during springer season. I miss the rogue, but not all the boneheads...When I come to visit the rogue again, it will be below rainey falls... Nice job on the fish! Jigs are awesome and the pink worm is also deadly...

Took a walk off the beaten path for some unpressured waters and combined the jigs and the pink worms for some success.
