Been fishing the stretch just below the small damn of russel drive with the yellow gate. Some fast water with some slow pockets in it. I have seen a lot of big beat of salmon hanging out in the slow water but nothing triggers a strike from them also seen a couple steelies surfacing there too so i know the fish are there I'm just not throwing the right stuff I guess any advice greatly appreciated!!

tight lines!

Welcome to OFF.

Summer = low/clear water. So, think small OFFerings and light lines.

Good luck.

Fish aren't biting anything on the Santiam from what I hear. Maybe next weeks rain will turn them on.

Oranges and pink variations are always pretty good steelhead colors.but when water gets low and gin clear as it does in the summer, you will have to switch it up.just mess around with different things until you find out what works for you! That's half the fun/challenge/frustration of being a steelheader that we must all go through! :) also do not be afraid to throw out a tiny little trout sized lure either!

not sure about the south but on the north they have been hammering 2/5 oz little cleos.

Literally the first hour of light, then go home.
