A long wait.

It's still a month from the first season stocking at JC Pond.
I'm sad to say that fishing the stockers at Alton-Baker has been my primary recreation this past year.
It seems that the older I get, the harder it becomes to get around while fishing, so I now spend the vast bulk of my fishing time sitting in my fishing chair on the bank of easily accessible water.
I haven't even taken my boat out this year, despite it being registered, and my having installed new lights and running it in my driveway to make sure it is ready to go, as well as installing a ball, lighting plug and safety chain hook points on my new (to me) pickup.
It's just become almost more of a chore to take it out than a pleasure.
Then there's the fuel cost.
I haven't even towed my boat far enough to measure what the mileage will be like, although I don't expect it to be more than around 12 MPG.

JCP used to be my "home water". Do they still throw brooders in it?

Occasionally, As far I've noticed, it usually happens shortly after the first stocking of the season.
But I suspect they add a few of the larger fish at different times, because it seems to me that people catch the brooder fish all through the winter stockings.

Get a Great Fishing Buddy to share the cost! Twice the fun and new friends is always a recipe for success.

I used to fish JCP 20-some years ago and caught some huge brooders tossing around a joe's fly spinner under a casting bubble. That little pond was always a nice place to spend some time fishing for stockers.

I'm in the same exact place. Still want to fish, but finding it harder to do. Was thinking of getting a boat, but not sure I can handle it on my own. Don't trust myself in a kayak, so limits me even more. Been fishing since I was a kid and wish I didn't feel like I had to give it up.

Yeah , a fishing buddy might be the answer. Wish you were a bit closer. I'm west of Salem. If anyone closer to my area would like to hook up, let me know.
