i live in albany and i work in salem. every day i pass the rest area, and on the side where the traffic is travelling south there's this hole that looks PERFECT. i'm PRETTY sure is the n. fork santiam. i know it's the santiam anyhow. has anyone had any experience in this location?

best advice i can give you is let your GEAR do the work. you usually don't have to put too much muscle at all into a cast. that was my biggest mistake. you spend a ton of extra cash on a high tech reel - let it work for you! once you get good with these reels, that's probably all you'll use...

ya... i never understood that law... i really don't see how cleaning your fish in the river is a danger...

lol my first ever steelhead i had to use my shirt... it sucked. well, actually it was someone else's shirt that got left in my car. i guess the lesson there is don't leave stuff in my car lol.

lol great point! besides, i've been hurt pretty good trying to take hooks out of a flopping steelhead. those things are POWERFUL!

ok, so if i were to kill it, bleed it, stick it in the water or hang it on a tree or something, fish for a few hours, go to the store and get a bag of ice and throw it in the ice chest, i can wait til i'm home to gut it? i live about 40 minutes from the fishing hole.

how do you guys get your fish home? do you kill it, bleed it, ice it, get it home and gut it? gut it before you leave...?

what are some good nymphs to purchase? i'd be fishing for trout in lakes/streams.
