I was looking at the count for winter steelhead over Willamette Falls. As of today it is 253. Looking back at the records over the past ten years this is only 10-20% of the norm. Usually sitting between 1500-2500 at this point. The closest to this low I can find is February 2006 when there were...
Haha! All I did was browse the forums and read all I could find. And ask a lot of questions in the river. Thanks for the kind words.

Went out to a local stream yesterday with board member gulfstream. Great weather, beautiful day, and decent fishing. Well... Maybe I was lucky because I got all the hook ups. We covered tons of water looking for good spots in the gin clear water. Found a couple of fish after a couple hours...
Got it off a steelhead stalkers video I think. The idea is steelhead have a pretty big mouth. You want that fish to bite the bead and hold on. If it feels a hook it will spit it quick. Also it seems to lead to more hook sets right in the corner of the mouth where you want it.

You can fish them all sorts of ways though. That's the setup I was using that day. I also will bobber dog them, drift them, or use em as a trailer behind a yarnie or jig

Hot fish!
I peg the bead on a leader about three fingers length above the hook. 18" leader. Tied to a swivel. 30" section of heavier test than the leader tied next. BB shot right above the swivel. This whole thing goes under your typical fixed float or sliding float set up.
